DuetPkg is an implementation of the UEFI boot interfaces on top of a 
legacy BIOS, so the legacy BIOS would handle all the SMM activity.  It 
probably wouldn't help you here.

Hardware debugging with an ITP can work, if you have the equipment.  And 
old-fashioned debug prints through a serial port or equivalent are 
always helpful.

Bochs seems to have some SMM code... I'm not sure how complete it is.
